Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Tottenham extended their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered Everton their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck on two occasions from corners in the opening 45 minutes to place their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien thought he had equalized the scores a short while after the defender's opener, glancing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

Beto, in the meantime, missed a number of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of excellent saves to ensure Tottenham went five matches on the road without defeat in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, instructing Craig Pawson to check the score on the pitchside monitor and the official decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

The win elevates the manager's team up to third in the division, five points off north London rivals and leaders the Gunners.

The Merseyside club remain 14th and sit half a dozen points ahead of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender fulfils duties at both ends of pitch

Following a uninspiring weekday performance in the Champions League against the French side, where they managed a only two shots on target, the manager opted for the French striker in attack instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The summer signing was unable to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Defender Van de Ven transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Spurs' opening strike came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball back across the face of goal for an free the defender to score.

And the captain - stepping up as captain in the Argentine's unavailability - notched his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he outjumped the England keeper to head home.

The Dutchman was just as impressive in defensive duties, combining well with his defensive colleague as the duo dealt superbly with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Toffees lacking striker's instinct

Everton's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have worn off slightly and fans headed to the gates after the midfielder's final goal for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a massive concern for the manager, but their striker situation will be.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' pair of established strikers - had scored just a single goal between them before Sunday's match.

And they were unable to add to that miserable record on a wet and gloomy night on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was summed up when he chose to bicycle-kick a clear chance from close range, even with having room and time to reposition for a more conventional attempt that would have challenged Vicario.

Barry, as well, was unable to influence the game after replacing the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. Most of the home side's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who relentlessly delivered threatening balls into the Spurs box.
