The Actress Says Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels appropriate to voice opinions regarding the Trump administration, concerned it could worsen polarizing arguments and further divisions throughout the United States.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Notes Lawrence
During a discussion, the Oscar winner commented, “When Trump was first in office, I believed I was acting frantically without clear direction. But experience has shown, election after election, Hollywood stars fail to influence whatsoever on who people vote for.”
Lawrence added, “What’s the point? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to heighten conflict tearing the nation apart.”
Shifting Views
Jennifer Lawrence has spoken candidly about voting for both conservative and liberal presidential nominees over the years. Brought up by conservative Republicans in her home state, she voted for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election before joining the Democrats and stating she understood during Obama’s administration that supporting the GOP was undermining her personal freedoms as a woman.
Earlier Remarks
Earlier in her career, she stated that Trump winning the presidency would be “a catastrophic event” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “since I feel she’s an excellent choice and I trust that she will take all necessary steps to protect abortion access.”
Industry Position
Jennifer Lawrence was joined by most of Hollywood in her disapproval of the former president as a returning figure, but the lack of leverage stars have over the public choices was underscored by his election win.
“The second term appears changed,” commented she of his administration. “Because he made his plans clear. We knew what he did for four years. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”
New Release
The actor is currently promoting her new film, the filmmaker’s movie in which she plays a new mother who faces challenges with her psychological well-being in the countryside. During a press conference for the film in the film festival, Lawrence addressed Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s taking place is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s terrible.”
Wider Issues
She continued by saying that she was disappointed by “the disrespect in the discourse of U.S. political debates right now and how that is going to be normalised to the children right now. It’s going to be typical to them that elected officials deceive.”
The actor sought to redirect frustration about the issue to decision-makers rather than entertainers. “Stay focused on those accountable,” she remarked, in what many took to be a allusion to the declaration supported by numerous entertainment industry figures to boycott specific industry bodies.
Personal Connections
Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her role in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her performance in her latest project. Although the director has denied the narrative being understood as one of postpartum depression and mental illness, the actress said that she did relate to parts of her character’s journey after the arrival of her new baby, not long after filming concluded.
“There was concern for my son,” she commented, “envisioning every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was attempting. I was seeing a therapist, but I started taking a medication called that medicine and I continued it for a short period and it was effective.”
Career Moments
The actor also mentioned regarding the freeing requirement of shooting revealing sequences in the project while she was in pregnancy and unable to exercise.
“It’s refreshing,” she said, about having to set aside self-consciousness. “I mean, I sometimes think where I’m like, What technically are the differences between myself and a sex worker? But it isn’t a major concern.”
